Edwin Ipape set for months out

BY JOHN DAVIDSON

Breaking: Leigh is set to lose star hooker Edwin Ipape for at least the next few months with a knee injury.

Ipape hurt his knee and came from the field early in the Leopards’ round one loss to Huddersfield.

The hooker has been set for scans, after fears he had hurt a medial ligament.

rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads has been told that the Papua New Guinean has indeed ruptured his MCL and is likely to be sidelined for at least eight weeks, if not for longer.

Leigh are still waiting for advice from their consultant on exactly how long Ipape will be out of action for.

The loss of the hooker is a huge blow considering how crucial he was to the Leopards’ excellent 2023 season.

Leigh are now looking to bring in cover at 9, with Ben McNamara and Matt Davis the other players who can fill in at hooker in the squad.
