WAKEFIELD winger Tom Johnstone has made himself available for both Germany and Scotland when World Cup qualifiers begin again.
Speaking on the Rugby League On TalkSport 2 podcast, 22-year-old Johnstone indicated he would have played in the 2017 World Cup for Scotland if asked.
He was born in Germany.
Asked if he was available for both, Johnstone said: “Definitely, with being born in Germany and having Scottish blood.
“With my birth certificate, technically I’m from Scotland as well. It’s complicated with the army (responsible for his parents being in Germany).
“If they’d have come and spoke to me, I could potentially have gone with either of them, yes.”
Germany official Simon Cooper told rugbyleaguehub.com the country had so far only played friendlies. Leeds’ Jimmy Keinhorst has played alongside his brothers for Germany.
This year, however, Germany competes at RLEF Level C and are allowed four heritage players only.
Those expected to be in line for selection this year include: Keinhorst, Brad Billsborough (St.Helens), Ben Dent (Newcastle Thunder) and Andy Hoggins (Coventry) and Jared Blanke (Lezignan).
Cooper said he’d be keen to speak to Johnstone.
