Ukraine asks world rugby league community for direct financial assistance

BY STEVE MASCORD

THE Ukraine Rugby League has for the first time appealed to the sport’s global community to donate directly to the war effort.

URFL president Artur Martyrosian has drafted a letter to all rugby league players, officials and fans worldwide detailing how his organisation will provide first aid equipment and other military accessories to the wider community.

He has provided a bank account for foreigners to make deposits which in turn will be used to buy these supplies.

“Ukraine is going through hard times now,” Martyrosian wrote.

“Ukrainian Federation Of Rugby League needs your financial help to support our players, coaches … and other members who are now fighting for freedom, not only for Ukraine but for the whole of Europe in the war with Russia!”

The items listed include body armour, ‘integrated fighting systems’, helmets, radio sets, tactical googles and Israeli bandages.

Several Ukrainian players have been killed in the fighting so far. Super League and the International Federation have come out strongly in favour of Ukraine and Russia has been suspended from international competition.

The bank details can be found below.
