Salford secure new CEO

BY JOHN DAVIDSON

Exclusive: Salford Red Devils have appointed New Zealander Jerome Mika as their new interim CEO.

rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads understands Mika has assumed the chief executive role for now.

Former CEO Chris Irwin was removed from his post last week. The club has claimed that Irwin resigned, but numerous sources have confirmed publicly that Irwin was relieved of his duties.

According to LinkedIn, Mika is a community and business development consultant and director.

A New Zealander of Samoan heritage, who hails from Auckland, he serves as a board member of the Manukau Urban Maori Authority and as a board member of the Pacific Media Network.

In the past he ran as a Labour candidate in the 2014 New Zealand general election, and has worked in advertising and for unions.

Salford have denied Mika is working as interim CEO.

“To clarify, he is a representative of the investor group and not acting in any executive capacity at the club,” the club spokesperson said.

Earlier today City AM revealed that the Red Devils have been hit with formal legal action by HMRC over unpaid bills.
