Cas coach accuses players of poor attitude in shock loss

CASTLEFORD Tigers coach Daryl Powell says his players carried a poor attitude into the Super League grand finalists’ shock Boxing Day loss to lower division Featherstone.

“I thought our attitude was poor and that was sort of the beginning and the end of it for me,” Powell said in the wake of the 32-16 loss.

“We talked a lot about attitude, about how important the game was for quite a few individuals within the team, whether they were young players or whether they were new players in the team looking to make a point.

“Featherstone, they went after the game a bit more than we did and, as a result, won a lot of the key battles.”

The game marked the return to England from Newcastle Knights of Cas’ signing Joe Wardle.

Powell continued: “It probably gives us a bit of a kick up the backside. Obviously we’ve got a lot of good players to come back. There’s a significant number of our better players who didn’t play today.

“But still, a Castleford team, I’d expect to play with a better attitude than we did today so we’ve got some work to do in the next month.”
