Burgess vows ‘I’ll get to Vegas’ as Wolves coach faces visa wait

Warrington Wolves head coach Sam Burgess is waiting to find out whether his visa will be granted in time to fly out to Las Vegas with the squad for their historic Betfred Super League match against Wigan Warriors at Allegiant Stadium on March 1; Burgess had to attend an interview at the US consulate in London and expects to learn the outcome of his visa application within the next 48 hours

Sam Burgess expects to find out within the next 48 hours whether he will be able to join Warrington Wolves for their clash with Wigan Warriors in Las Vegas.

Australia’s Daily Telegraph reported on Friday the Wolves head coach was waiting to find out if his visa would be approved in time for the match at Allegiant Stadium on March 1, after he had to attend the US consulate in London for an interview as part of the application process.

The Wolves are due to fly out to Vegas on Sunday and Burgess expressed a level of optimism he will be able to be part of the historic Betfred Super League match.

“My visa application is saying it’s with the US border control at the moment,” Burgess told Sky Sports.

“I’ve thanked everyone down at the US embassy in London over the last few days and put a lot of work into.

“I respect the process and it’s just down them and a bit of time. We’ll wait to see how it goes over the next 24-48 hours.

“I’m an optimist. I’ll get to Vegas, it’s just when it is.”

Several NRL players who have had police issues have had to attend interviews at the American consulate in Australia before being allowed to fly to the USA over the past two years.

Burgess pleaded guilty to three driving charges in 2021 when he was still based in Australia, although avoided conviction and was instead ordered to complete a traffic offenders programme.

Whether or not the 36-year-old will be able to join his team, they go into the match against reigning Super League champions Wigan on the back of making it two wins from two at the start of the 2025 season after defeating Catalans Dragons 18-12 at home on Friday.

“It’s obviously much nicer to go out there with a couple of wins,” Burgess said. “We’ll break it down then we’re on a flight on Sunday.

“It’s going to be a really enjoyable week for everyone and I really want them to soak it up and take something out of the experience.

“Then it’s about getting a performance Stateside.”
