Exclusive: Widnes coach Allan Coleman has denied he was allegedly involved in a pub brawl in the Cheshire town on Saturday following the Vikings’ loss to York.
rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads understands Coleman went to a pub in Widnes with some of his players following the defeat to York that ended their Championship season.
It is believed Coleman and a Widnes player were allegedly involved in a fight with another patron at the venue.
Coleman was approached for comment and has denied he was involved in any incident.
A Widnes spokesperson told rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads this afternoon: “The club is aware of an unprovoked attack on Head Coach Allan Coleman in Widnes on Saturday night.
“Our concern now is for the welfare of our Head Coach and will be making no further comment on the matter at this stage.”
rugbyleaguehub.com Long Reads has been sent images of Coleman circulating on social media with a bloodied face and nose.
The RFL was unaware of the incident when approached this morning.
The governing body has not responded when asked for comment.
Coleman joined the Vikings from Swinton as head coach in October last year on a two-year contract, with a club option for another year.
He spent time coaching at Leigh Miners Rangers and with the Leigh Leopards reserves, before two years as head coach of Tyldesley rugby union club.
Coleman joined Swinton as an assistant coach in 2019 before taking over as head coach during the 2021 season.
He is also believed to be currently the director of coaching for the England Community Lions programme.
Under Coleman Widnes finished fifth in the Championship this year, notching 14 wins and a draw from 26 matches.
