EASTS warrior Kevin (Horrie) Hastings will equal Barry Reilly’s club record in Sunday’s clash against Balmain at Parramatta Stadium.
It will be Hastings’ 198th first grade game for the Roosters.
Hastings says he’s counting the days until Sunday following Easts’ win over St George at the SCG last Saturday.
“It’s a great honour to be on the verge of breaking Bunny’s record. He was a great player, and a good club man,” said Hastings.
“There’s not many of them left.”
Indeed, Hastings himself is perhaps one of the few remaining true club-men in Sydney football.
Since joining the Roosters in 1976, Hastings has played for no other club and has won many a game for his beloved Easts.
He has also played two games for Sydney Seconds and one for New South Wales.
Reilly played his last game for the Roosters in 1980, but had earlier spent one year at Cronulla.
“I haven’t seen Bunny for a while, but I’d like him to be there when I equal his record on Sunday,” said Hastings.
Will there be any extra nerves on Sunday than there have been on the previous 197 match days?
“Not really. I haven’t been worrying about it or anything. I’ll just treat it like another first grade game. Perhaps I’ll be a little nervous when I get to 200 games,” Hastings replied.
