PENRITH are praying in-the-news five-eighth Bryce Cartwright did not brake his ankle in the big win over Wests Tigers at Campbelltown Stadium.
Cartwright, whose personal life was in the news in the lead-up to the 36-2 victory, was forced off in the first half of the Panthers’ first win of the season.
“He’s got a plate in his leg from a previous broken ankle,” coach Anthony Griffin said. “He’s got a lot of pain over the top of that so the doctor wants to get it scanned. There’s a number of things it could be.”
Asked if it was broken, Griffin said: “At this stage we don’t think so. He had too much pain. He couldn’t play on.
“He doesn’t know. He just got a whack on there in collision and somehow it got to the point where he couldn’t play.
“We had to lead with our defence and that’s what we did.”
Griffin said the publicity surrounding an abortion undertaken by a former girlfriend had not affected Cartwright.
“He was fine. There was never an issue about whether he was going to play or not.”
