Why do we pay Hayne more after he was a failure in two other sports?

NO WORD yet that Jarryd Hayne has changed his mind on his staggering £650,000 a year contract with the Gold Coast Titans to take up golf/basketball/thumb wrestling. Give it time.

Having so roundly failed in American Football and walked away, then seen his dreams of Olympic 73 with Fiji end in similarly dismal fashion, just like Sam Burgess with his doomed Union switch, Hayne has returned to even greater riches than had he stayed in League.

lt beggars belief – imagine if either of them had actually been any good! But I’m not really sure what message it sends out to other players considering similar experiments. In Hayne and Burgess’s case, I’m disappointed they seemed to think little of the legacy they could have left within the sport that gave them a platform for riches and glory. Imagine if Sam had stayed and built the dynasty at Souths that the club deserves?

Ultimately for both Hayne and Burgess their superbly athletic bodies couldn’t deliver on their inflated sporting egos. Why doesn’t it suffice to be brilliant at one sport?
